In a significant stride toward improving literacy, over 27,293 students are currently enrolled in community schools across the merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These schools, part of the Merged Areas Education Foundation (MAEF), represent a beacon of hope in regions where access to education has long been a challenge. With 337 operational community schools supported by 639 dedicated teachers, literacy in the tribal districts is steadily advancing.
Ainullah, Managing Director of MAEF, announced a groundbreaking initiative to enhance literacy rates and provide quality education during a recent briefing. The program aims to reintegrate out-of-school children and expand educational opportunities in the region. Thousands of students are benefiting from free education and related facilities at these community schools.
During the briefing, which included Deputy Managing Director Dr. Shaukat Hayat and other senior officials, Ainullah received a detailed overview of MAEF’s programs, performance, and budget. The briefing showcased the organization’s efforts to establish middle and high-level educational institutions to ensure quality education within local communities.
Ainullah directed his team to incorporate innovative programs into the upcoming financial year’s budget, emphasizing the need to address key challenges such as low literacy rates and the high number of out-of-school children. He stressed that education is the cornerstone of progress, and the foundation is committed to making it accessible through a range of initiatives. These include:
- Establishing Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) Centers: Designed to help children who have missed out on schooling catch up and reintegrate into formal education systems.
- Launching Second Shift Schools Programs: Offering flexible learning schedules for children who cannot attend traditional school timings.
- Providing Scholarships: Ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder students’ access to education.
- Modern Teacher Training Programs: Equipping educators with the skills needed to deliver high-quality education in a dynamic environment.
The foundation’s Literacy for All program has already made remarkable progress, enrolling 17,625 students with support from 267 trained teachers. Furthermore, the Subvention program is set to establish 25 new schools, enhancing educational access for underserved communities.
