Timings for College and School Adjusted Because Upcoming Heatwave

With effect from May 20, 2024, until further notice, the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has notified all school and colleges under its jurisdiction of the new schedule.

The notice states that single-shift facilities would be open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm. The hours on Friday are 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The morning shift for the double-shift institutions will run from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm, Monday through Thursday. The day will end at 12:00 pm on Friday.

Monday through Thursday, the evening shift will start at 1:00 pm and end at 6:00 pm. On Friday, however, courses at educational institutions will begin at 2:00 pm and end at 6:00 pm.

  • Pre-I (Montessori / Prep): Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 11:30 am.
  • Former FG Colleges: Monday through Thursday, 7:30 am to 1:00 pm / 4:00 pm; Friday, 7:30 am to 12:00 pm.

He indicated that the new school timetable will take effect right away and that it will be followed until the summer break is declared. The decision was made in light of the heatwave that is expected to occur next week.

Temperatures Over Normal Assumed in Islamabad

According to a recent advisory from the Met Office, daytime temperatures in Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Balochistan are expected to stay 04 to 06°C above average from May 21 to May 27.

It stated that heatwave conditions are expected to develop across much of the country, particularly over Punjab and Sindh, starting on May 21 and are expected to intensify into severe heatwave conditions from May 23 to May 27 due to the presence of high pressure in the upper atmosphere.

In Sindh and Punjab, daytime highs are predicted to be between 04 and 06°C above average from May 21 to May 23 and between 06 and 08°C from May 23 to May 27.
