Three Rivers Overflow, Army in Action: ISPR

Islamabad (Web Desk) – Director General ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has revealed that three major rivers in Pakistan are currently facing a dangerous flood situation. Addressing a joint press conference in Islamabad alongside Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, he said that Pakistan Army officers and soldiers are standing shoulder to shoulder with the nation in this difficult time. The DG ISPR said that, on the instructions of the Army Chief, troops are actively engaged in relief and rescue operations across the flood-hit areas. Two soldiers have been martyred and two injured during these operations. He confirmed that the Karakoram Highway has been reopened, damaged bridges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan have been restored, and over 100 roads have been cleared with the help of Army engineers. He emphasized that despite the severe weather and flood emergency, strict vigilance is being maintained at borders, and not a single post has been vacated. Operations against terrorists and illegal entrants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are also continuing without any let-up, ensuring that militants cannot exploit the situation. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said that flood levels in the Sutlej, Chenab, and Ravi rivers have risen dangerously. At Head Qadirabad and Head Khanki, water flow has surged beyond 1 million cusecs, and local authorities have been directed to evacuate vulnerable populations. He added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired an emergency meeting, ordering swift relief efforts and an enhanced early warning system. NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik warned that Sindh could face severe flooding in the coming days as water pressure increases at Guddu and Kotri barrages. He confirmed that data regarding possible evacuation zones has already been shared with PDMA Sindh. He stressed that this is a national response, with the Pakistan Army, NDMA, provincial governments, and law enforcement agencies all working together to protect the people and ensure rehabilitation measures.
