Tensions Soar as India-Pakistan Clashes Claim Over 50 Lives

New Delhi/Islamabad: The death toll from the most intense India-Pakistan clashes in decades has risen above 50, as both nuclear-armed neighbours accuse each other of launching a wave of deadly drone strikes across the border.

The latest escalation comes in the wake of a devastating April 22 attack on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir, which left 26 dead. In retaliation, India launched airstrikes on what it described as “terrorist camps” on Wednesday.

On Friday, Indian military officials claimed they had “repulsed” fresh Pakistani drone and munition assaults overnight, delivering what they termed a “befitting reply” as the two sides entered a third consecutive day of cross-border attacks.

India also alleged that Pakistani forces targeted three Indian military installations on Thursday—two in Kashmir and one in Punjab.

In response, Pakistan has accused India of dangerously raising tensions, warning that such actions are pushing the two nuclear powers “closer to a major conflict.”

Diplomatic observers have voiced growing concerns, urging restraint and immediate de-escalation to avoid a wider war in the region.
