Student To Supreme Soldier: General Asim Munir’s Story

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is the senior-most officer of the Pakistan Army and the current Chief of Army Staff, who was promoted to the rank of Field Marshal with the approval of the federal cabinet on May 20.

Field Marshal Asim Munir started his military career at the Officers Training School in Mangla, where he was awarded the Sword of Honor for his excellent performance. Later, he was commissioned in the Frontier Force Regiment.

Syed Asim Munir is not only an experienced and highly trained military officer but also a Hafiz of the Quran. His military career includes serving in several important and sensitive positions,

including Commander of Force Command Northern Area in 2014, DG Military Intelligence in 2017, DG ISI in 2018, and Corps Commander Gujranwala in 2019.

Since October 2021, he was serving as Quartermaster General at GHQ. On November 29, 2022, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif appointed him as the 17th Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army, which was ratified by President Dr. Arif Alvi under Article 243 of the Constitution.

Now as Field Marshal, General Syed Asim Munir not only holds the highest level of military leadership but is also the custodian of Pakistan’s defense, stability, and professional military tradition.
