Storms in Punjab and KP Leave 19 Dead, Dozens Injured
Islamabad / Lahore / Peshawar – May 25, 2025:Severe windstorms, heavy rain, and hailstorms wreaked havoc across various parts of the country, claiming at least 19 lives and injuring over 90 people. Punjab witnessed the highest number of casualties, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa faced significant damage to crops and infrastructure.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA):
3 deaths each were reported in Lahore and Jhelum, 2 each in Sialkot and Muzaffargarh
,1 each in Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Attock, Multan, Rajanpur, Hafizabad, Mianwali, Jhang, and Layyah
Most fatalities occurred due to collapsing walls and roofs. In Sheikhupura, one worker died and five were injured when a factory roof collapsed. In Rawalpindi, an elderly man died after a wall fell on him, and a child lost his life in Attock’s Jand area in a similar incident.
According to MEPCO, several grid stations were damaged in South Punjab, resulting in widespread electricity outages. The Motorway Police shut down multiple sections of M2, M3, and Lahore–Sialkot motorways for safety.
Although there were no reports of casualties in KP, the region suffered severe damage to crops, trees, and the power system. Over 113 power feeders tripped, leaving several areas without electricity for hours. Swat, Mardan, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Khyber, and Mansehra were among the worst-affected areas.
In Islamabad, heavy rain and hail caused urban flooding in low-lying areas, with several reports of fallen trees. In Lahore, WASA deployed machinery to drain rainwater from affected neighborhoods.
DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia directed all deputy commissioners and rescue teams to remain on high alert. Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed assured medical treatment for the injured and confirmed that relief operations are ongoing.
The Meteorological Department has forecast further rain and windstorms on Sunday and urged citizens in Punjab and KP to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay updated with weather alerts.
