Special Report on High-Level Assessment of Flood Damage in Ghizer

Today, a joint delegation of key government and military officials conducted a comprehensive visit to the flood-ravaged regions of Ghizer, focusing on the villages of Rowshan and Talidas. The purpose of the visit was to conduct an on-the-ground assessment of the damages and to directly interact with the affected population. The delegation included the Secretary Works Sibtain Ahmed, DG Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA) Zakir Hussain, and the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ghizer. The officials evaluated the extent of the losses, which included washed-out roads, damaged homes, and disrupted agricultural land. They also assessed the operational status of the relief camps and the distribution of aid. During their time in the affected areas, the team met with displaced families residing in temporary camps. They listened attentively as community members shared their experiences and detailed the challenges they are facing, from a lack of clean drinking water to the need for rebuilding materials. The officials assured the residents that their concerns were being noted and that the government was working on a comprehensive plan for rehabilitation. Additionally, the DC Ghizer visited the nearby Moolabad village, which was also impacted by the floods. He held a meeting with the villagers, addressing their specific concerns and promising swift action. A highlight of this visit was the DC’s recognition of a local hero. He presented a cash reward to an individual who, by quickly raising the alarm, is credited with saving hundreds of lives from the rapidly advancing floodwaters.
