At 11:45 AM, Somon Air first flight, SMR 129, from Dushanbe to Islamabad, touched down, signifying a momentous occasion in the development of ties between Pakistan and Tajikistan.
Firefighters from the Civil Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting Service saluted the fourteen-person aircraft with a traditional cannon salute.
Prominent individuals including Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, Ambassador Sharifzada Yousaf of Tajikistan, Chief Operating Officer of Islamabad Airport Syed Aftab Gilani, Deputy Terminal Manager Hamza Bin Masood, and prominent businessmen attended the celebratory cake-cutting ceremony. Other dignitaries in attendance included the Airport Manager and Director SAPs.
Flying out of Islamabad at approximately 3:30 PM, flight SMR 130 carried 52 passengers. Governor Faisal Karim Kundi emphasised the value of direct flights during the event in order to promote stronger relationships, reciprocal cooperation, and regional advancement. He highlighted the advantages for businesspeople looking for new trade and investment opportunities as well as the common cultural history between the two nations.
The Governor flew to Dushanbe on the first-ever return trip to visit the business community and investigate new trade and investment opportunities. The Governor also commended the work of officials, diplomats, and stakeholders who helped to facilitate the inauguration of direct flights.
On this occasion, there was also a cake-cutting ceremony. The Chief Executive Officer of Somon Air, General Manager of Shaheen Airport Services Islamabad Air Cdre (retd) Shahid Nadeem, and Executive Director of Shaheen Airport Services Air Commodore (R) Wasim Ahmed Khan expressed their happiness at the milestone.
Attending the occasion were luminaries such as the Airport Manager and Director SAPs.
52 passengers were on board Somon Air’s SMR-130 return aircraft, which left Islamabad for Dushanbe that same day in the afternoon.
With the introduction of direct flights, travellers will be able to save time on their journey between Islamabad and Dushanbe.
The trip will take place once a week on Thursdays, making use of the cosy Boeing 737 fleet. As a result, the flights will occur more frequently.
