ISLAMABAD: The registrar of the Supreme Court (SC) has sent three names to the parliamentary committee for the appointment of the new Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), according to Rendom News sources.
The SC registrar forwarded these names after receiving a request from the law ministry, which asked the SC to provide the names of the three most senior judges of the apex court. Following the passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, a session of a special parliamentary committee will be held today to review the candidates for the new CJP, as Chief Justice Isa is set to retire on Friday, October 25.
The 12-member Special Parliamentary Committee, established to oversee the appointment process, includes members from the government and the opposition. Key political figures on the committee are Senator Azam Nazir Tarar, Khawaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, and Shaista Pervaiz. Additionally, leaders from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) such as Farooq Naek, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, and Syed Naveed Qamar are included.
The committee features notable legal experts, including Barrister Ali Zafar, Barri, and Sahibzada Hamid Raza. Furthermore, JUI-F member Kamran Murtaza and MQM-P representative Rana Ansar have been appointed to this important committee that is responsible for the appointment of the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
