Ramadan Moon Not Sighted, First Fast on March 2

Islamabad: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has announced that the moon of Ramadan 1446 AH has not been sighted across the country, so the first Ramadan will be on Sunday, March 2.

Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meeting
A meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee was held under the chairmanship of Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad at the Auqaf Hall in Peshawar to sight the moon,

in which committee members, representatives of the Meteorological Department, Suparco and other relevant institutions participated.

In addition, zonal committee meetings were also held in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Quetta and other cities, but no evidence of moon sighting was received from any place.

Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad announced that the weather remained cloudy in most parts of the country, while the sky was clear in some areas, but the moon was not sighted. Therefore, it was decided unanimously that the first fast will be on Sunday, March 2.

Suparco’s prediction
According to Suparco, the new moon will appear on February 28, 2025 at 5:45 PM Pakistan time. However, it was not possible to see the moon due to its age of 12 hours and altitude of 5 degrees at the time of sunset.

Suparco experts say that the moon is likely to be seen in Saudi Arabia on February 28, as a result of which the first fast there will be on March 1.

Expected date of Eid al-Fitr
According to Suparco, the Shawwal moon is likely to be seen on March 30, based on which Eid al-Fitr is likely to be celebrated in Pakistan on March 31.

However, Suparco clarified that the final decision on the sighting of the moon of Ramadan and Eid will be taken by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
