Heavy rain and snowfall in the upper areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan have intensified the cold weather, while several connecting roads have been closed due to snow accumulation. The Meteorological Department has forecast more rain and snowfall over the next 24 hours.
In Peshawar and surrounding areas, rainfall has caused a noticeable drop in temperature, falling to 11 degrees Celsius, with cloudy conditions expected to persist. Intermittent rain continues in Lower Dir and Upper Dir, while snowfall in the mountainous regions has covered areas including Kumrat Valley, Jahaz Banda, Badgoi, Lowari Tunnel and nearby localities with up to one foot of snow.
Light rain in Abbottabad and adjoining areas has further increased the intensity of cold weather. Meanwhile, Nathiagali, Ayubia, Donga Gali and other parts of the Galiyat have been experiencing continuous rainfall for the second consecutive day. According to the Director General Galiyat, a new spell of snowfall is expected from today in Nathiagali, Galiyat and Thandiani, and citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel.
Snowfall is also continuing in the upper regions of Kaghan Valley, including Naran, Babusar Top and Lake Saif-ul-Malook. Naran has received about six inches of snow, while Babusar Top and Lake Saif-ul-Malook have recorded more than one foot of snowfall. Rain in Balakot and surrounding areas has cleared dust and improved weather conditions, though the cold persists.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, the upper area of Yasin in Ghizer district has received the first snowfall of the winter season. As a result, link roads have been blocked, causing severe travel difficulties for residents.
Meanwhile, after a weak rain system passed through Punjab, dry weather has returned to most districts. However, the Meteorological Department has forecast another rain system from December 27 to 31, which is likely to bring rain to Lahore and other parts of Punjab. Dense fog during morning and night hours has led to the closure of several motorway sections.
In Balochistan, most districts continue to experience cold and dry weather. Minimum temperatures recorded were minus 2 degrees Celsius in Quetta, while Ziarat and Qalat recorded minus 4 degrees Celsius.
