Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Umar Ayub has strongly denied rumors of any deal regarding the release of party founder Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi.
Ayub, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, speaking to reporters in Sargodha on Friday, said: “The release of Bashira Bibi is not part of any deal.”
He said that Imran’s wife was wrongfully imprisoned and “now she is in a safe place”.
He further said that Tosha Khana’s case against the PTI founder is also false.
Politico’s statement came a day after Bushra, who was being held in Adiala Jail in the Tosha Khana-2 case filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB),
was released from prison after spending nearly nine months behind bars.
He was initially detained after being sentenced to 14 years in prison in January 2024 in the original Tosha Khana case.
He was released a day after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted his bail on a surety bond of Rs 1 million in the new Tosha Khana case.
On January 31, a court sentenced the couple to 14 years in prison after a court found the former first lady guilty of possessing and selling state gifts in violation of government laws (the Tosha Khana case) during Khan’s tenure. He was sentenced to a year in prison.
His release was expedited through the normal legal process, as is usually the case when a warrant (release order) is issued.
So the prisoner is released within two hours. However, Bushra Bibi was released in just 20 minutes.
After Bushra Bibi’s release, additional security forces were deployed at the jail to ensure her safe departure.
However, the process went smoothly without any protest or significant presence of the PTI. Bushra’s car sped out of the prison gate number 5 and was driven towards Bani Gala.
