PTA And NCCIA Take Action Against Illegal IMEI Tampering And SIM Issuance
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in collaboration with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), has intensified its operations against illegal IMEI tampering and unauthorized issuance of SIM cards, aiming to safeguard the country’s telecom infrastructure and digital integrity.
In the first operation, a mobile repair shop located in Latifabad Unit 8, Hyderabad, was raided. Two individuals were arrested, and a desktop computer along with specialized software used for illegal IMEI cloning was seized.
In a separate raid, conducted in Gulzar-e-Hijri, Scheme 33, Karachi, a Zong franchise near Kiran/Memon Hospital was found involved in unauthorized SIM issuance. Suspect devices were confiscated, and two individuals, including the franchise manager, were taken into custody. A formal case has been registered, and further investigations are underway.
These enforcement actions underscore PTA’s unwavering commitment to ensuring digital security and the robust implementation of telecom regulations across Pakistan.
