The country’s power generation increased by 0.3 percent year-over-year to 14,880 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in July 2024, marking an 11 percent increase compared to the previous month’s 13,461 GWh.
The average cost of fuel for power generation rose by 7 percent year-over-year to Rs. 9 per unit in July 2024, while in FY24, the fuel cost decreased by 6 percent to Rs. 8.8 per unit.
The primary contributors to power generation in June 2024 were Hydel (35.9 percent), RLNG (20 percent), and Nuclear (13.4 percent).
Hydel-based power generation decreased by 3% year-over-year to 5,341 GWh in July 2024 from 5,518 GWh the previous year but saw an increase of 13 percent compared to the previous month.
RLNG power generation increased by 2 percent year-over-year from 2,918 GWh in July 2023 to 2,970 GWh in July 2024, with a 22 percent increase month-over-month.
Imported coal-based power generation decreased by 48 percent year-over-year to 1,137 GWh in July 2024 from 2,180 GWh last year, but monthly coal power generation showed a 78 percent increase from 637 GWh in the previous month.
Nuclear-based power generation decreased by 6 percent year-over-year to 1,988 GWh in July 2024 from 2,107 GWh last year, and by 1 percent month-over-month compared to 1,998 GWh in June 2024. Solar-based generation showed a 47 percent year-over-year increase from 75 GWh to 110 GWh in July 2024.
