PM Welcomes Maersk’s $2 Billion Investment in Pakistan

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif was called on by Robert Maersk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of world-renowned shipping company A.P. Moller – Maersk.

During the meeting, investment in Pakistan’s maritime sector, expanding existing cooperation and future collaborative projects were discussed.

The Prime Minister, while welcoming Maersk’s $2 billion investment in Pakistan, said that now is the time to remove all obstacles and bring the maritime sector to global competitive standards.

The Prime Minister directed that the memorandums signed with the company last year be converted into agreements as soon as possible.

He also directed that a technical working group be established for cooperation in the maritime sector and that it submit recommendations within a month.

The Prime Minister said that Allah Almighty has blessed Pakistan with vast marine resources, and we are determined to use these resources for the betterment of the country.

He further said that Pakistan’s importance as a trade corridor has increased significantly in the recent global scenario.

In the meeting, Robert Maersk said that his company has had relations with Pakistan since 1924, and today these relations are stronger than ever.

Expressing his desire to invest in Pakistan’s seaports, he said that the company is committed to making Pakistan a unique hub for maritime trade in the region.

He described the economic policies of the Pakistani government as attractive and positive for investment. He said that Maersk’s clients around the world have also shown interest in business opportunities in Pakistan.

This important meeting was attended by Maersk CEO Keith Svendsen, Danish Ambassador Jacob Lenliff, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, Advisor to the Prime Minister Syed Tauqir Shah, Special Assistant Tariq Fatem, i  and senior officials of relevant institutions.
