PM Vows to Provide More Facilities to Overseas Pakistanis

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says that the record level of remittances is a reflection of the confidence of overseas Pakistanis in government policies.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed happiness and gratitude to overseas Pakistanis for the first time in history that remittances from overseas Pakistanis crossed the $4 billion mark in any single month. In March 2025, remittances recorded the highest level ever in a month at $4.1 billion,
while remittances have reached a total of $28 billion so far in the current fiscal year. The Prime Minister said that remittances have increased by 37.4% in March this year compared to March last year. The good news of a record increase in remittances in the context of the ongoing Overseas Pakistanis Convention in Islamabad is a manifestation of the dedication,
passion and confidence of overseas Pakistanis in the country’s economy. He said that overseas Pakistanis, by working hard and dedicatedly day and night abroad, not only bring glory to the country and nation but also benefit the country’s economy through remittances.

The Prime Minister said that overseas Pakistanis are our asset, the entire nation, including me, is proud of our hardworking overseas Pakistanis. The Government of Pakistan is committed to providing all facilities to overseas Pakistanis.

Islamabad, April 14, 2025; Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, while addressing the inaugural session of the “First Annual Convention of Overseas Pakistanis” held in Islamabad on Monday as the Chief Guest, lauded the role of overseas Pakistanis and paid tribute to their valuable services. The Speaker congratulated the Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain and the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation on the successful organization of the convention, terming the initiative commendable.

He stated that overseas Pakistanis are the backbone of the national economy and should be accorded the same respect and recognition as the country’s top exporters, as the foreign remittances they send surpass even the national export earnings.

Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq referred to overseas Pakistanis as ambassadors of Pakistan, stating that wherever they go, they earn respect and recognition through their hard work, integrity, and capabilities. He emphasized that the National Assembly is the representative forum for overseas Pakistanis, and all members of parliament stand united in resolving their issues. He added that it is always heartening to hear foreign delegations praise the talent and character of Pakistanis abroad.

NA Speaker emphasized that highlighting the challenges faced by overseas Pakistanis, legislating for the protection of their properties, and providing them with facilities should be among the government’s top priorities.

He also shed light on the disadvantages of sending money through hawala/hundi channels, noting that such informal methods not only harm the national economy but also lead to legal and financial difficulties for overseas Pakistanis. He urged them to send remittances only through formal banking channels.

Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq also stressed the importance of including overseas Pakistanis in the electoral process and called for serious consideration of proposals in this regard. He assured overseas Pakistanis that legislation will be introduced to protect their land and property rights, and that provincial governments will be taken on board on this matter. He further highlighted the need to strengthen the digital economy and promote health tourism. The Speaker remarked that Pakistani doctors are held in high esteem worldwide due to their exceptional skills, and this potential should be effectively utilized for the benefit of Pakistan. Speaker National Assembly urged overseas Pakistanis to also play their part in enhancing Pakistan’s GSP Plus status to further strengthen the country’s global reputation.
