PM Strikes Back: Major Move Against US Tariffs

Islamabad: A meeting chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reviewed in detail the new tariffs imposed by the US on imports.

During the meeting, it was decided to send a high-level delegation of Pakistan to promote trade relations with the US and negotiate on the new tariffs.

The Prime Minister directed that the delegation should include prominent business figures and prominent exporters so that Pakistan’s position can be presented effectively in the trade negotiations.

The delegation has been tasked with deciding on a mutually beneficial future course of action after the negotiations on tariffs imposed on imports from the US.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Ministers Ahad Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Advisor to the Prime Minister Tauqir Shah, Special Assistants Tariq Fatemi, Haroon Akhtar, Coordinator to the Prime Minister Rana Ehsan Afzal and other senior officials.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan-US trade relations span several decades, and the government is keen to further strengthen these relations.

A detailed report and proposed strategy were also presented by the Steering Committee and Working Group in the meeting.

The Prime Minister was informed that the Pakistani Embassy in the US is in regular contact with the US authorities to ensure the protection of Pakistan’s trade interests.
