PM Stresses Federal-Provincial Unity To End Polio
Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif chaired an important meeting regarding the anti-polio campaign. The meeting reviewed the current situation of polio cases and the progress of the ongoing campaign.
Addressing the meeting, the Prime Minister said that “the reduction in polio cases in February 2025 is a reflection of the effective strategy of the anti-polio campaign. We are committed to the complete eradication of polio.”
He appreciated the performance of the administration of all the provinces for timely identification and reduction of polio cases and said that this success is the result of tireless work.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the complete eradication of polio will be possible only with the cooperation of the federation and the provinces. He also appreciated the cooperation of the security forces in the polio campaign.
During the briefing in the meeting, it was informed that 42.5 million children were administered polio drops in the February 2025 campaign, while about 90% of children in polio-affected districts were vaccinated.
It was further informed that 6 polio cases have been reported since the beginning of the year 2025, however, a significant reduction in polio cases has been seen in Balochistan, Sindh and southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after the February campaign.
The officials said in the briefing, The first polio campaign of this year was completed in February, while the next two campaigns will be held in April and May.
The Prime Minister directed the digitization of all polio data and strict monitoring, saying that the campaign is being constantly monitored through an IT dashboard.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State Dr. Mukhtar Bharat, Senator Ayesha Raza Farooq and senior officers of the concerned institutions.
