PM Orders Crackdown On Tax Evaders
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to make the digital surveillance system more effective and extensive, directing strict action against individuals and sectors involved in tax evasion.
These instructions were given in a high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, which was attended by financial, industrial, and tax experts.
The meeting emphasized the need to expand the scope of the Track and Trace System (TTS) to other sectors so as to prevent billions of rupees in losses to the national exchequer.
The Prime Minister clarified that tax evasion is a serious threat to the country’s economy and the digital system has become indispensable to ensure transparency. He said that positive results of TTS have been revealed in the sugar and cement industries, and the same model should be implemented in other important industries as well.
Experts said on the occasion that the imbalance in the current tax system is unacceptable, and effective implementation of digital surveillance will not only increase revenues but also improve the GDP ratio.
The Prime Minister directed tax authorities to close loopholes, bring unregistered businesses into the net, and implement all legal and administrative measures to protect the national economy.
