PM Meets Bangladesh Chief Advisor Dr. Yunus In Cairo

Cairo: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief Advisor Bangladesh Dr. Yunus held a meeting in which the Prime Minister stressed exploring new avenues of economic cooperation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is currently in Cairo, Egypt to attend the D-8 Conference.

The meeting between the Prime Minister and the Chief Advisor of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus, took place on the sidelines of the D-8 Summit,

which is a true reflection of the existing goodwill and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The Prime Minister highlighted the historical, religious, and cultural ties between the two countries. He expressed Pakistan’s desire for bilateral cooperation, especially in the areas of trade, people-to-people contacts, and cultural exchanges.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed the need to make joint efforts to explore new avenues of economic cooperation

and stressed the need to take advantage of the vast potential to promote trade in sectors such as chemicals, cement clinkers, surgical instruments, leather products, and the IT sector.

Prime Minister Shahbaz thanked Bangladesh for the recent steps taken to facilitate trade and travel between Pakistan and Bangladesh,

which included the removal of the requirement of 100% physical inspection of goods coming from Pakistan and the removal of the special security desk set up at Dhaka Airport for screening Pakistani passengers.

The Prime Minister also thanked Bangladesh for removing the requirement of additional clearance for Pakistani visa applicants.

The two leaders expressed satisfaction over the recent positive developments in bilateral relations and also expressed satisfaction over the increasing high-level contacts.

They agreed to expand and deepen bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.

They also stressed the need to coordinate efforts to achieve mutually beneficial development objectives.

The two leaders recognized the importance of people-to-people contacts and cultural exchanges involving artists, sportsmen, academicians, ns, and students.

The two leaders also expressed satisfaction over the Bangladesh cricket team’s visit to Pakistan and the concert of Pakistani artists in Dhaka.

The two sides agreed to enhance cooperation in various multilateral forums, including the D-8.
