After a gap of five years, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has resumed its direct flight operation from Islamabad to Manchester.
According to a spokesperson for the national carrier, the Boeing 777 aircraft departed from Islamabad and landed at Manchester Airport after a five-hour non-stop flight, arriving at 5 p.m. local time.
A large number of members from the Pakistani community gathered at Manchester Airport to welcome the flight, chanting “Pakistan Zindabad” and expressing their excitement over the resumption of the route.
Earlier, Federal Minister for Defence and Aviation Khawaja Asif inaugurated the relaunch of PIA’s UK flight operations. The British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, was also present at the ceremony.
It is worth mentioning that in 2022, flight operations to the UK and the European Union were suspended after then-Federal Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan revealed in Parliament that several Pakistani pilots possessed fake licenses, leading to a flight ban on PIA by European aviation authorities.
