Peace Should Not Be Mistaken For Weakness, Pakistan Warns India
Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said during his weekly media briefing that Pakistan fully respects China’s sovereignty and integrity.
He said that Pakistan has seen reports based on the Chinese position on Arunachal Pradesh and we support China’s territorial sovereignty.
Discussing the recent tension between Pakistan and India, the spokesperson said that the atmosphere of peace in the region was affected due to India’s war madness and aggression.
Pakistan retaliated under Operation “Banyan Al-Marsoos” to assert its sovereignty and defend itself, in which enemy military installations were targeted.
He said that Pakistan exercised its right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. The Pakistan Air Force had full authorization to defend the country’s airspace, under which 6 Indian Air Force aircraft were shot down.
The spokesperson added that Pakistan wants peace but is fully capable of giving a befitting reply to any aggression. Our policy is clear that peace should not be considered our weakness.
He denied that any nuclear radiation was feared during the recent clashes. He termed the Indian media reports as baseless and misleading.
According to the spokesperson, since May 10, the DGMOs of Pakistan and India have been in regular contact and are working on steps to reduce tension in a phased manner. Pakistan welcomes the ceasefire agreement and expects India to abide by it.
He said that on May 14, Pakistan handed over the Indian Border Security Force personnel to India, while India in return returned the Pakistani Rangers personnel.
Finally, the spokesperson thanked all friendly countries, especially the US President, for supporting the ceasefire and said that only through mediation and diplomatic efforts can lasting peace be established in the region.
