PCB Wins the Game: Pakistan‘s Name on Indian Jersey
Ahead of the start of the Champions Trophy 2025, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released pictures of the official photo shoot of the Indian team, in which Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are seen in the new jersey.
Interestingly, the right corner of the Indian team’s new jersey has the name of Pakistan as the host country, along with the branding of the Champions Trophy.
These pictures released on the social networking website X caught the attention of cricket fans,
because earlier, there were reports that the BCCI would not allow the name of Pakistan to be written on the shirts of the Indian team.
However, the new BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia, confirmed that the Indian team will follow the ICC rules,
according to which it is mandatory to include the name of the host country on the shirts of the teams participating in any event.
India recently introduced a new jersey for white-ball cricket in the home series against England, but it has undergone a significant change for the Champions Trophy, with the name of the hosts, Pakistan, in the top right corner.
India has been embroiled in various controversies ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy, including refusing to play matches on Pakistani soil and insisting on a hybrid model.
The controversy led to a delay in the announcement of the event schedules and, ultimately, the decision to hold India’s matches in Dubai.
Moreover, the Indian Cricket Board had also refused to allow Rohit Sharma to attend the ‘captains’ meeting’ in Pakistan, which led to criticism from the BCCI for politicizing the game.
However, the presence of Pakistan’s name on the Indian team’s shirts now proves that no team can deviate from this decision as per ICC rules.
