Pakistan Will Soon Be Polio-free Due To Workers’ Efforts: PM
Islamabad, October 24, 2025 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif praised the dedicated efforts of polio workers in Pakistan, saying that thanks to their hard work and government initiatives, polio will soon be eradicated from the country. He was addressing a ceremony organized on the occasion of World Polio Day.
The event was attended by Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Prime Minister’s focal person for polio eradication Ayesha Raza Farooq, officials of supporting organizations, and selected polio workers from across Pakistan.
The Prime Minister appreciated the efforts of the Federal Health Ministry, relevant authorities, and global partners in the fight against polio, emphasizing the government’s commitment to fully eliminate the disease. He paid tribute to the courage, dedication, and zeal of polio workers, who often risk their lives in challenging areas to carry out immunization campaigns.
He stated that on behalf of himself, the nation, and the government, he extends heartfelt thanks to all polio workers. The ceremony reflected the government’s determination to combat polio, highlighting the significant contributions of Pakistani citizens dedicated to eradicating this disease.
Special recognition was also given to international partners, including WHO, UNICEF, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Saudi Arabia, for their financial and technical support. Earlier, the Prime Minister distributed shields to polio workers for their exemplary services, representing all provinces and regions, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Sindh, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
