Pakistan Terms US Congress Resolution As ‘Unsolicited Interference’

ISLAMABAD: On Friday Pakistan responded to the US House of Representatives Resolution 901 by terming it as an infringement over the country’s affairs, which is undesirable and unwelcome: MoFA.

During a weekly briefing, the spokesperson of the Foreign Office, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, said to the mass media that the said resolution stemmed from a poor and wrong perception of Pakistan’s political and election process.

“Most importantly, it is an interference in the internal affairs of Pakistan In our view, international relations should be conducted between equals and respecting the sovereignty of each other’s jurisdiction; therefore any contribution from the US Congress is at best intrusive,” she said.

Moreover, he stated that the timing and setting of the said resolution were not suitable for the positive trend in the relations between Pakistan and the United States at the moment.

To that she noted that Pakistan said it would like to further nurture its relations with the US based on mutual trust and credibility, non-interference in each other’s internal affairs.

Voicing concern on the ongoing denial of democratic rights to the Kashmiris in IIOJK, she said that the Indian authorities have recently barred the elections of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association and imprisoned the ex-Bar President Mian Qayoom.

Similar to the above restrictions, the Indian authorities banned the Eid congregation at historic Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, and subsequently house arrested prayer leader and distinguished Kashmir leader, Mir Waiz.

“These oppressive measures are yet another example of the autocratic approach of the Indian authorities and a violation of the fundamental freedoms and human rights, especially of the rights of association and peaceful assembly,” she said and to this, she again reiterated Pakistan’s stance for continuing political, diplomatic and moral support to the people of occupied Kashmir to get a just and peaceful solution of the disputed according to the UN Security Council resolutions.
