Pakistan Submits Plan To IMF For Rs6 Electricity Price Decrease

The federal government has prepared a plan to make electricity cheaper by Rs 6 per unit and shared it with the IMF.

The International Monetary Fund has not yet confirmed this but has sought further details.

Under this project, the federal and provincial governments will arrange funding of 2800 billion rupees.

According to the details, the sources of Power Division say that out of 2800 billion, 1400 billion will be paid by the federal government.

The remaining 1400 billion rupees will be deducted by the four provincial governments from their share under NFC, Punjab will have to pay 699 billion, Sindh 351 billion, and Pakhtunkhwa 231 billion.

Sources say that under the project, the inefficient power plants will be closed by paying 2800 billion rupees.

IPPs will terminate contracts or relax their terms;

Some of the defunct power plants will be paid in full, contracts will be terminated, some power plants will be paid off local debts.

Sources say that the reduction in the profit of government power plants will make electricity cheaper by Rs 1.15 per unit.

By removing the circular rate of 2300 billion rupees in one lump sum, the price of electricity will be reduced by 2.83 rupees per unit.
