Pakistan Set to Host 14th South Asian Games in 2026

Islamabad: Pakistan is all set to host the 14th South Asian Games, scheduled to take place in January 2026. The country is gearing up to welcome athletes from across the region in what promises to be a major international sporting event.

An important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Rana Sanaullah, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Inter-Provincial Coordination, to review preparations for the Games. During the meeting, the Pakistan Olympic Association presented its recommendations to the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination regarding the organization of the event.

To ensure effective implementation of these recommendations, Rana Sanaullah directed the formation of a high-level committee, headed by the Secretary of Inter-Provincial Coordination. The committee will include representatives from all four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and will present detailed proposals to the federal government regarding venues, security, and other essential matters.

A total of 27 sports disciplines are expected to be part of the mega event. The Punjab government has officially expressed its willingness to host the South Asian Games.

Speaking on the occasion, Rana Sanaullah emphasized that the successful hosting of such international events — including the South Asian Games, Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, and the Champions Trophy — is a testament to Pakistan’s secure and stable environment.

He added that the South Asian Games will not only showcase Pakistan’s organizational capabilities but also enhance its positive image on the global stage.
