Pakistan Ready To Defend Water Rights: PM
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan desires peace in the region and if Iran wants to play any role in this regard, it will be welcomed.
The Prime Minister spoke to Iranian President Masoud Pezishkian over the phone, during which he expressed his heartfelt condolences and sympathy for the loss of precious lives in the explosion at Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas.
Expressing solidarity with the government and people of Iran, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan stands with Iran in this hour of grief and is ready to provide all possible assistance. The two leaders discussed the current situation in the region.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed Pakistan’s position on India’s provocative actions regarding the Pahalgam incident and said that Pakistan desires peace in the region. He added that if Iran wants to play any constructive role in establishing peace in the region, Pakistan will welcome it.
The Prime Minister strongly denied Pakistan’s involvement in the Pahalgam incident and its fight against terrorism. He said that Pakistan itself has been the biggest victim of terrorism, and thousands of lives have been lost in it.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister condemned India’s decision to use water as a weapon in the Indus Waters Treaty and said that Pakistan will defend its water rights at all costs.
The Prime Minister pledged to continue supporting the Kashmiri people’s struggle for their right to self-determination and expressed solidarity with the Kashmiris by UN resolutions.
The Iranian President thanked Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif for his solidarity and praised Pakistan’s efforts to establish peace in the region. He invited the Prime Minister to visit Tehran, upon which the Prime Minister invited the Iranian President to visit Pakistan.
