Islamabad: Pakistan Railways has suffered a loss of more than 48 thousand million rupees in a year, this has been disclosed in the railway audit report.
According to the details, in the audit report of Pakistan Railways, this alarming revelation has come out that the department has faced more deficit in 2022-23 as compared to the previous financial year.
According to the audit report, Pakistan Railways faced a loss of Rs 48195.28 million in the financial year 2022-23.
The railway administration has been unable to reduce the losses of the railways to zero for many years, the deficit was 2.04 percent higher than the previous years.
In the last financial year, the operational cost of the railways was Rs 111914.79 million, compared to which the railway earned Rs 63717.92 million, the railway faced a loss of Rs 48,196.87 in terms of operational cost.
The federal government had also provided 47500 million rupees to the railways in the form of subsidy.
The government subsidy was meant to reduce the losses of the railways. According to the report, interest of 5.9 billion on overdraft was not recorded in the accounts of Pakistan Railways.
