Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Mohammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, announced that Pakistan has issued its first-ever bunkering license, marking a historic milestone for the maritime sector. The launch of world-class bunkering services at Karachi Port has already attracted interest from several international companies.
According to the minister, the service was initiated under the special directives of the Prime Minister and will provide ships with a fuel supply system meeting international standards. This global-standard bunkering is expected to enhance Karachi Port’s regional competitiveness, attract more foreign shipping lines, and generate valuable foreign exchange.
Junaid Anwar Chaudhry added that international safety and operational standards have been implemented at Karachi Port. The new service is also expected to create employment opportunities in ship maintenance, supplies, and maritime logistics. Fuel quality, documentation, and transparency will strictly follow global compliance standards.
With this initiative, Pakistan’s ports are projected to generate billions of rupees in revenue, positioning the country as a growing hub for maritime trade in the region.
