Pakistan and Iran have agreed to restore the freight ITI (Islamabad–Tehran–Istanbul) train service, aiming to boost bilateral trade and enhance mutual imports and exports.
Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Reza Amiri Moghaddam, met with Pakistan’s Minister for Railways, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi. The meeting was also attended by the Iranian Commercial Counsellor, Ms. Kamali Moghaddam. Both sides discussed strengthening bilateral relations and expressed appreciation for the positive cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, Pakistan and Iran agreed to resume the ITI freight train service later this year. The Railway Minister stated that increasing trade would not only improve railway revenue but also have a positive impact on the national economy. He added that promoting regional connectivity and linking the region through rail networks is a key part of the government’s vision.
The Iranian Ambassador also invited the Railway Minister on an official visit to Iran. In response, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi said that performing religious pilgrimage in Iran would be an honour for him and that reviewing Iran’s railway system would also be part of the agenda.
