The position of the Foreign Office has come out on the arrest of a gang with radioactive materials in India.
In an ongoing statement, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said that Pakistan is deeply concerned about reports of repeated incidents of theft and illegal sale of nuclear and other radioactive materials in India.
In the latest incident, a highly radioactive and toxic substance was illegally found in the possession of a gang, the spokesman said.
The materials are worth US$100 million, and three incidents of radiation theft were also reported in 2021.
Last month, the radioactive device allegedly stolen from the Bhabha Atomic Research Center was also found in Haradon, the Foreign Office spokesperson said.
These recurring incidents call into question the measures taken by New Delhi to safeguard nuclear and other radioactive materials.
A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said these incidents also indicate the existence of a black market for sensitive, dual-use materials within India.
In India, it is dangerous for such sensitive material to routinely fall into the wrong hands.
Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said that Pakistan reiterates its demand for a thorough investigation of these incidents and appropriate measures to prevent their recurrence.
