In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district, the Afghan Taliban and the militant group “Fitna al-Khawarij” launched unprovoked firing on Pakistani security positions. According to security sources, the Pakistan Army responded with a powerful and precise counterattack, destroying two enemy posts and a tank. The Taliban suffered heavy losses as several of their positions caught fire, and they fled the area, leaving behind multiple bodies.
Security sources confirmed that the Pakistan Army’s retaliatory fire caused severe damage to Taliban fortifications. During the operation, another Taliban post and tank position were destroyed in the Kurram sector. Footage from the scene reportedly shows the Taliban’s moving tank being hit and obliterated by the Pakistan Army.
In the span of an hour, Pakistani forces successfully neutralized four Taliban tank positions, including the strategic Shamshad post. Several Taliban and Khawarij fighters reportedly fled in panic, abandoning their posts, while intelligence reports suggest that a key Khawarij commander was also killed during the operation.
Earlier, on the night between October 11 and 12, the Afghan Taliban and India-sponsored Khawarij militants had launched an unprovoked attack along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The Pakistan Army’s response resulted in heavy enemy casualties — more than 200 militants were killed, while Pakistan lost 23 soldiers, and 29 others were injured.
Pakistan has repeatedly urged Kabul to prevent terrorist groups from using Afghan soil for attacks inside Pakistan, though the Afghan government continues to deny these allegations.
Meanwhile, international actors, including U.S. President Donald Trump and China, have offered to help de-escalate tensions between the two neighboring countries. Defense Minister Khawaja Asif recently described the situation as “tense,” while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated during a cabinet meeting on October 9 that “our martyrs have drawn the line with their blood — now it’s time for decisive action against terrorism.”
He further said, “These so-called friends turned enemies — the Khawarij — are crossing from Afghanistan to attack the very country that once gave them refuge and respect.”
