Pakistan and Bangladesh ready to come closer once again

Lahore: President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari has stated that there are vast opportunities for cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh in various fields. He emphasized the need for both nations to work together for the welfare of their people.

He expressed these views while speaking as the chief guest at a reception held at the Governor House Lahore on Sunday in honor of the cricketers and officials from Pakistan and Bangladesh.

On the occasion, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Punjab Governor Sardar Salim Haider, and players and officials from both cricket teams were also present.

President Zardari said that sports play a vital role in building connections between nations. He welcomed the Bangladesh cricket team, stating that they are visiting as ambassadors of their country. “Bangladesh is a brotherly country,” he remarked, adding that just like Pakistan, Bangladesh has been blessed with resources. He noted that Bangladesh is now recognized as a strong economic nation on the global stage.

He stressed that both neighboring and brotherly countries have broad avenues for collaboration and must work jointly for the prosperity of their people.

Reflecting on history, the President said, “The present generation of Bangladesh is unaware of the pain of separation from Pakistan. I belong to the generation that witnessed this separation. The time has come to heal those wounds. We must work together to build stronger relations and closer ties.”

He urged that both nations need to take collective measures that ensure the well-being of their people, with youth playing a vital role in this mission.

Earlier, President Zardari met with players and officials from both teams, conveyed his best wishes, and appreciated the performance of the Pakistani cricket team in the current series. He also praised the Bangladesh team for showcasing high-quality cricket.
