Pakistan and Afghan Taliban Agree on 48-Hour Ceasefire

Following recent precision strikes in Kabul and Kandahar, Pakistan has announced a 48-hour temporary ceasefire at the request of the Taliban regime. According to the Foreign Office, both countries agreed to this ceasefire by mutual consent, effective from 6 PM today. During this period, both sides will engage in constructive talks to find a positive resolution to the issue.

Earlier, the Pakistani Armed Forces carried out targeted operations in Kandahar province and the capital city, Kabul, hitting key Taliban positions. In Kandahar, Battalion 4 and Border Brigade 6 were destroyed, resulting in the deaths of dozens of Afghan and foreign militants. Pakistani forces also successfully repelled Taliban attacks along the Balochistan border, killing approximately 15 to 20 militants.

In Kabul, the Pakistan Army targeted the leadership of “Fitna Hindustan,” a group associated with terrorist activities in Balochistan, ensuring civilian safety while destroying all intended targets. Additionally, Battalion 4, Battalion 8, and Border Brigade 5 in Kandahar were neutralized.

Recent clashes have claimed the lives of 23 Pakistani soldiers, with 29 wounded. Over 200 Taliban and allied militants were killed in these confrontations, marking the third major skirmish along the border in the past week, including areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district.

Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan were already tense, and recent events have further escalated the situation. Defense Minister Khawaja Asif stated that there are currently no direct or indirect diplomatic contacts between Islamabad and Kabul, and hostilities could resume at any time.
