Pakistan, Afghanistan Extend Ceasefire Temporarily

Diplomatic sources have confirmed that Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to a temporary extension of the ongoing ceasefire. The decision aims to maintain calm until the conclusion of the Doha talks, where high-level negotiations are expected to begin tomorrow (October 18).

According to sources, the Afghan Taliban delegation will be led by Defense Minister Mullah Yaqoob, while senior Pakistani security officials will head Pakistan’s delegation. However, due to the United Nations Security Council’s travel restrictions, the Taliban government has reportedly altered its delegation.

Earlier, on October 15, Pakistan had approved a temporary 48-hour ceasefire at the request of the Afghan Taliban. The Foreign Office confirmed that the truce came into effect from 6 p.m., aiming to create a conducive environment for dialogue and peaceful resolution of issues.

The Foreign Office spokesperson stated that Pakistan remains committed to sincere efforts toward a peaceful settlement through dialogue.
Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said on social media platform “X” that Afghan forces have been instructed to fully observe the ceasefire as long as no aggression occurs.
