Iran’s President Ibrahim Raisi has expressed his desire to increase trade volume between Iran and Pakistan to $10 billion. Speaking to the media in Tehran before leaving for a 3-day visit to Pakistan, Raisi emphasized the importance of Pakistan as a neighbor and a brotherly Islamic country.
There are historical relations between the two countries at both the public and government levels. Pakistan and Iran have had a strong political, economic, and religious relationship in the past. The two countries share common positions on human rights, Palestine, and anti-terrorism efforts and cooperate on related issues. During his visit, Raisi will meet with his Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and other important personalities. He will also visit Lahore and Karachi to pay his respects at Mazar-e-Iqbal and Mazar-e-Quaid. The goal of this visit is to strengthen the bond between Iran and Pakistan and increase trade between the two countries to benefit both economies.
