Students are protesting in different cities of the province including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Lahore against the alleged rape of a female student in Punjab College.
The protest that started in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Lahore on Thursday morning spread to other cities as well.
The protesting students ransacked various campuses of Punjab College and damaged property.
Students started a protest outside MAO College early in the morning in Lahore, which was dispersed by the police. However, protests were also held outside the building of a private college in Lal Pul area. In which there are also reports that a security official was injured.
Similarly, in Patuki, students protested outside the school building, resulting in traffic gridlock on GT Road. Similarly, the protest continued in the city of Gujarat. On Thursday, students took out a rally from the Islamia University campus in Bahawalnagar and recorded their protest.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat while talking to Urdu News Correspondent Roy Shah Nawaz said that the situation in Punjab is normal, only minor protests have been recorded in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Gujarat.
He said that a private college is being deliberately targeted and as a precautionary measure, all the branches of this private college have been closed until the situation returns to normal. All other schools, colleges, and universities of Punjab are open.
On the other hand, students also vandalized the campuses of Punjab Colleges in Gujrat and Chakwal and also demonstrated on Morgah Jhelum Road and Gujarkhan GT Road.
More than 150 people involved in vandalism have been arrested from Rawalpindi while cases have been registered against 250 students in Lahore.
