Open Manhole In Karachi Claims Life Of 3-year-old Ibrahim: Body Recovered After 15 Hours

The body of 3-year-old Ibrahim, who went missing after falling into an open manhole near the Nipa Bridge in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, was recovered 15 hours later, approximately half a kilometer from the site. The body had been carried by a drain and got stuck a short distance away. The KMC team retrieved the body and handed it over to the boy’s grandfather.

According to eyewitnesses, Ibrahim had gone out with his family for shopping. After leaving the store, he ran ahead and fell into an uncovered manhole. Rescue operations continued throughout the night, but were initially halted due to a lack of proper machinery. Later, local residents arranged heavy machinery themselves to assist in the search.

Residents protested the negligence of authorities by blocking roads at Nipa Chowrangi, Hassan Square, and routes to the University of Karachi, burning tires and even throwing stones at a media van. The boy’s mother is reportedly in shock, while anger and grief remain high in the area.

The Sindh government has taken notice of the incident and launched an investigation. Sadia Javed stated that the reasons for the missing manhole cover are being examined, and strict action will be taken against those found responsible.
