Nurse Dies by Suicide in Bannu, Harassment Alleged
Bannu: A nurse from Lakki Marwat posted at Khalifa Gulnaz Medical Complex, Bannu, allegedly tired of continuous harassment, committed suicide.
The sad incident occurred on June 14, but despite the passage of three days, no official statement or press release has been issued by the hospital administration.
According to the police, the nurse in question was posted at Hayatabad Medical Complex in Bannu for an internship and was staying in the hospital’s hostel.
The nurse’s brother has stated to the police that he received information in Islamabad that his sister had attempted suicide and was in the ICU.
When they immediately reached the hospital along with other relatives, Nurse Ulfat was unconscious and died a short time later.
According to the heirs, there is clear evidence of harassment in the WhatsApp messages received from the nurse’s mobile phone, which suggests that she was suffering from severe mental stress.
They have held the hospital’s quality manager, Atiqur Rehman, responsible for the incident and have demanded immediate legal action against him.
Police sources say that an investigation has been started by initially filing a daily report at the township police station, and a formal FIR will be registered based on the evidence and statements.
Sources say that an attempt is being made to hide the incident from the media, while suspicion is being expressed that a few influential people may be involved in it.
Meanwhile, civil society, women’s rights organizations, and local citizens have reacted strongly to the incident and demanded a transparent, impartial investigation from the government and the judiciary and immediate legal action against those involved.
