No Major Operation Planned in Balochistan: Opposition

Quetta: A special in-camera meeting was held under the chairmanship of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti on the deteriorating law and order situation,

In which government ministers, senior officials, Leader of the Opposition Mir Younis Aziz Zehri Member of Assembly Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman, and other members participated.

In the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary Home Shahabuddin and IG Police Balochistan Moazzam Jah Ansari briefed the members of the assembly on the increasing incidents of terrorism in the province and the elements behind them.

The officials provided details regarding the loss of life and property and the poor law and order situation, on which the opposition members raised questions, which were answered by the government.

Opposition’s proposals: Negotiations, employment, and border trade

Talking to the media after the meeting, Opposition Leader Mir Younis Aziz Zehri said that he was satisfied with the briefing of the in-camera meeting and hoped that positive steps would be taken in the interest of Balochistan. He said that no decision was taken for any major operation in Balochistan.

Member of Balochistan Assembly Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman told the media that 10 to 15 proposals were presented by the opposition in the meeting, the top of which was the proposal for negotiations with the disgruntled Baloch. He said that it was necessary to provide a conducive environment for negotiations, and the government should avoid public confrontation while maintaining its tone.

He added that the opposition demanded that the government provide employment opportunities for the youth,

improve the justice system, and restore border trade so that the difficulties faced by the people could be resolved.

Government response: Assurance of consideration of proposals

Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman said that the government listened to the opposition’s proposals seriously and assured to consider them.

However, he also clarified that despite efforts for negotiations, there has been no positive progress from the other side yet.

He added that no discussion was held in the meeting regarding any operation and no final decision was taken.

However, the government has assured to hold more such meetings and take the opposition into confidence.

Absence of important leaders

It should be noted that National Party leader Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch and former Chief Minister Nawab Muhammad Aslam Khan Raisani from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam did not attend the meeting, on which various speculations are being made in political circles.
