The National Highway Authority (NHA) has declared that as of tomorrow, July 1, there will be a further rise in the toll tax for cars using highways. Starting tomorrow, the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M-1) toll levy will increase significantly.
The NHA claims that the toll charge for vehicles travelling on the M-1 will rise from Rs. 240 to Rs. 350. Vans will now cost Rs. 550 instead of Rs. 400, and coasters and Mazdas will now cost Rs. 700 instead of Rs. 550.
The toll charge on buses would increase from Rs. 790 to Rs. 1000, while the tax on trucks will rise from Rs. 1040 to Rs. 1300. The toll fee on trailers will increase from Rs. 1270 to Rs. 1500.
The National Highway Authority (NHA) has announced an increase in toll levy for several vehicle classifications on national highways and motorways, effective July 1, 2024, after the National Assembly’s adoption of the Federal Budget 2024–25.
The NDA states that the new tax will be imposed on national highways, including as the Havelian-Mansehra Motorway, M-1 (Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway), M-3 (Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Motorway), M-4 (Faisalabad-Multan Motorway), and M-5 (Sukkur Multan Motorway) with M-15 (Hazara Motorway).
The most recent update states that the toll charge on vehicles has increased to Rs40 from Rs30, while the toll duty on waggons has climbed to Rs70 on national routes. It went up from Rs 100 to Rs 130 for buses, Rs 120 to Rs 150 for 2 to 3 axle trucks, and Rs 250 to Rs 350 for heavy trucks.
The Transporters have rejected the increase in tolls and called this adjustment harsh and intolerable. The Supreme Council of All Pakistan Transporters said in a statement that they will suffer greatly from the added load of a raised toll tax because they are already finding it difficult to pay for tyres, diesel, and replacement parts.
