The Punjab Police launched an operation early Monday morning to disperse workers of a religious group in Muridke. The operation lasted for nearly five hours before it was declared complete.
According to police officials, one Station House Officer (SHO) was killed and dozens of personnel were injured during the clashes. The religious group, however, alleged that police opened direct fire on protesters — a claim that could not be independently verified.
Journalist Jehanzeb, who was present at the scene, described the aftermath as “utter devastation.” He said, “Burnt vehicles, motorcycles, and scattered belongings are visible everywhere. The main container of TLP has been completely destroyed by fire, and smoke is still rising from it.”
He further reported that bullet casings and tear gas shells are strewn across the ground, while the strong smell of tear gas continues to linger in the air.
“It’s difficult to even stand here — my eyes are burning. However, heavy police deployment remains in place, and the GT Road has been reopened for light traffic,” he added.
Eyewitnesses said that cleanup operations are underway, and local residents have started arriving at the scene to view and capture photos of the destruction.
