Motorway Police Organize Road Safety Seminar at Bahria University Lahore

Officials stress dangers of fatigued driving, importance of helmets, and avoiding mobile phone use

The Motorway Police organized a road safety seminar at Bahria University Lahore, attended by DIG Imran Shahid and SP Shahbaz Alam as special guests. The seminar focused on raising awareness among students about the serious dangers associated with reckless driving, particularly driving under fatigue. Officials highlighted that fatigued driving remains one of the most common yet underestimated causes of life-threatening road accidents. Participants were told that defensive and responsible driving is the only effective solution to prevent accidents and save lives.

During the seminar, students were specifically advised to wear safety helmets when riding motorcycles, with emphasis on the fact that helmets are not just a legal requirement but a critical tool for saving lives. Officials warned that neglecting helmets often turns minor accidents into fatal tragedies. The participants were also reminded that mobile phone usage during driving is among the top contributors to road crashes, as it causes distraction, delays reaction time, and drastically reduces a driver’s focus on the road.

Speakers further stressed the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, pointing out that negligence in car care often results in mechanical failures that can lead to accidents. Overspeeding was also identified as a major cause of fatalities on highways, with officials urging students to respect speed limits at all times. They encouraged young drivers to adopt road discipline and prioritize safety over haste, reminding them that safe driving habits not only protect the individual but also everyone else on the road.

The event served as an interactive learning experience, where students were encouraged to share their own observations and concerns about road safety. The Motorway Police reiterated their commitment to educating the youth, as they represent the future drivers and road users of the country. Such awareness campaigns are part of a broader initiative to reduce road accidents and instill responsible driving culture in Pakistan.

At the end of the seminar, active students and participants who engaged in the discussion were presented with souvenirs and gift hampers as a token of appreciation for their involvement. The event concluded with a strong message: road safety is a shared responsibility, and every individual must play their role by adhering to traffic rules and ensuring safe driving practices.
