Monsoon Rains To Continue Till August 14, Flood Warning In Punjab

The Punjab Natural Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a flood warning in various areas of the province as a result of monsoon rains.

Officials say at least 154 people have been killed in six weeks of monsoon rains and floods in Pakistan.

Pakistan is one of the countries most affected by climate change. Last month, United Nations officials warned that at least 200,000 Pakistanis could be affected by the current monsoon rains.

In the year 2022, more than 1700 people died in Pakistan as a result of stormy rains, while the country’s economy was damaged by 30 billion dollars.

Officials of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) in Pakistan say that 154 deaths occurred in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a result of monsoon rains and floods.

According to the officials, “The rains may raise the water level in rivers, dams and streams.” It has also been reported that the current monsoon rains will continue till August 14.

Due to the monsoon rains, the low to medium flood level in the Indus River will remain for the next few days.

NDMA officials further said that an alert has also been issued regarding the flood situation in the Indus River.

Apart from this, there is a possibility of flooding in rivers adjacent to river Chenab and river Ravi.

PDMA Punjab says that there is a flood situation in ‘Nala Ek’ of Sialkot and the local administration of the area has been asked to be on alert.

Irfan Kathia, head of PDMA Punjab, said that all necessary measures have been taken in view of the possible flood.
