Monsoon Alert: Landslide, Flood Risk In Northern Areas
Intermittent rain overnight in the twin cities made the weather pleasant, while the Meteorological Department said that on July 6 and 7, Islamabad is expected to experience rain with strong winds and thunderstorms in various parts of the country.
The Meteorological Department said that during this time, heavy/heavy rain is also expected at a few places in Kashmir, North-East Punjab, Potohar region and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The statement said that due to heavy, heavy rain during July 06 and 07, there is a possibility of flooding in local/rainy rivers of Murree, Galiyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, D.G. Khan, North-East Punjab, Kashmir and Balochistan.
Due to heavy rains, there is a risk of traffic movement being affected due to landslides in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir.
Due to heavy rains, there is a risk of flooding in the low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera and Peshawar. The public has been advised to be cautious.
The Meteorological Department further said that the weather in Islamabad and its surroundings will be hot and humid/partly cloudy, in addition to strong winds/thunderstorms and heavy/heavy rain at a few places.
Apart from this, the weather is likely to remain hot and humid in most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
However, rain with strong winds and thunderstorms is likely in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Waziristan, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Hangu and Kurram.
During this time, heavy/heavy rain is also expected at a few places. The weather is likely to remain hot and humid/partly cloudy in most districts of Punjab.
However, rain with strong winds and thunderstorms is expected at a few places in Murree, Galiat, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Mandi Bahauddin, Chiniot and Okara.
According to the statement, rain with strong winds and thunderstorms is expected at a few places in Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Khushab, Sargodha, Multan, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, D.G. Khan and surrounding areas.
The weather is likely to remain hot and humid in most districts of Sindh, however, strong winds and thunderstorms are expected in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mithi, Sanghar, Khairpur, Mirpur Khas, Dadu and surrounding areas along with rain at a few places
, during which light rain/drenching is likely in Karachi including coastal areas.
On the other hand, heavy rain broke the heat in the twin cities last night, the highest rainfall was recorded in Islamabad Syedpur at 131 mm, Nala Lei rose up to 15 feet.
In Rawalpindi and Islamabad, heavy rain continued intermittently from night to morning. According to the Meteorological Department, 81 mm of rain was recorded in Golra and 34 mm of rain was recorded in Shamsabad.
The water level in Nala Lei rose up to 15 feet in Kataria and 12 feet in Golmandi, water entering low-lying areas was drained by WASA teams after the rain stopped.
Due to the cleaning of Nallah Lai, a large stream of water passed through in a short time and fell into the Swan River. When the water level in Nallah Lai rose, WASA emergency teams were activated under the supervision of MD WASA Salim Ashraf.
MD WASA was informing Minister Housing Bilal Yasin, Secretary Housing Noorul Amin Mengal, and Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema about the rain situation.
Minister Housing Punjab Bilal Yasin said that the safety of life and property of citizens is the top priority during the monsoon, for which all institutions are on alert.
