Monsoon 2025: Heavy Rains Predicted Across Pakistan

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert regarding Monsoon 2025, warning of heavy rains and thunderstorms across much of the country.

According to the report, from 16 August (1400 hrs) to 18 August (1200 hrs), widespread rain and thunderstorms are expected. A persistent low-pressure system lies over northern Balochistan, while moist monsoon inflows from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea are interacting with a westerly trough, creating conditions for intense rainfall.

Experts have forecast cumulative rainfall of 50–150 mm in northern hotspots, with isolated torrential downpours exceeding 100 mm in upper hilly regions due to orographic effects.

Additionally, several districts of Sindh, including Badin, Thatta, Umerkot, Mirpur Khas, Tharparkar, Sukkur, and adjoining areas are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall within the next 12 hours.

Potential Impacts

  • Urban flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas, particularly in regions with poor drainage.

  • Strong winds and thunderstorms may uproot weak trees and cause short-term power outages.

  • Reduced visibility on roads due to rain and dust, increasing the risk of traffic accidents.

Precautionary Measures

  • Avoid standing near trees, signboards, and weak structures that may collapse during storms.

  • Park vehicles in safe, covered locations to protect them from falling branches or debris.

  • Refrain from unnecessary travel during rainfall to minimize risks.

  • Regularly monitor weather updates and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
