The smart lady at 90-years-old woman hailing from South Carolina, earned her master’s degree. This achievement make her the oldest person to successfully complete coursework at the university.
According to university officials press release, Minnie Payne, finished her degree in interdisciplinary studies online in July.
In July, Minnie Payne completed her degree program in interdisciplinary studies online, showcasing a true embodiment of the term ‘lifelong learner.’ Billy Roessler, the assistant dean of graduate studies at UNT’s Toulouse Graduate School, expressed admiration for Minnie’s remarkable persistence in achieving her degree at the age of 90, emphasizing her clear sense of purpose in the pursuit.

Walking the stage at the commencement ceremony on December 17 in Denton, Texas, Minnie Payne was accompanied by her grandson, Payne Billings. Reflecting on her journey, she shared, “I took it day by day.”

Know Minnie’ Life and Career
Minnie, a mother of two, focused her studies on writing and has an extensive background as a freelance and staff writer for various publications in Dallas, Houston, and other parts of Texas. Her passion for writing is evident as she expressed, “Most writers write because they enjoy it. I do it because I love it. I do it because it’s therapeutic. I do it because it gives me something constructive to do.”
Notably, before earning her master’s degree, Minnie graduated in 2006 from Texas Woman’s University with a bachelor’s in general studies.

Earlier, the oldest student was belong to UNT and awarded a master’s in education in 2009 at age 97. He took about 30 years after they had completed their final coursework in the 1970s.
