Mastung: Attack on Polio Team, 2 Levies Martyred
A tragic incident took place during the anti-polio campaign in Mastung district of Balochistan, where unidentified armed men attacked the Levies force assigned to the security of the polio team in UC Mobi Kali Teri, resulting in the martyrdom of two personnel.
According to Levies sources, the incident took place on Wednesday when firing was opened on the personnel assigned to the polio campaign. In the attack, Levies personnel Nek Muhammad was martyred on the spot, while another personnel Maqsood Ahmed was seriously injured, who was immediately shifted to the hospital where he also succumbed to his injuries.
As soon as the information about the incident was received, a large contingent of security forces reached the spot and cordoned off the area and a search for the attackers has been started.
The Balochistan government has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the martyrdom of the Levies personnel assigned to the security of the polio team in Mastung and paid tribute to the martyrs. “We are proud of the sacrifices of our martyrs who laid down their lives in the line of duty,” said a Balochistan government spokesman.
The spokesman said the government was making security measures more effective to prevent such incidents and was reviewing the strategy to ensure the safety of polio teams across the province.
The incident was strongly condemned and security agencies have termed the attack as a serious attempt to disrupt the polio campaign. Paying tribute to the sacrifices of the martyred personnel, the government and top officials have assured a thorough investigation.
