Major Crackdown on Illegal Parking in Quetta

Quetta (PR): On the instructions of the Chief Minister of Balochistan, a high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Quetta Division, Hamza Shafqaat, to improve and beautify Quetta city. The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner Quetta Division Agha Samiullah, Deputy Commissioner Quetta Captain (R) Mehar Ullah Badini, SSP Traffic Behram Khan, SSP City, Director Development Quetta Division, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Assistant Commissioner Political, Assistant Commissioner City, Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Quetta, Deputy Director Quetta Beautification Project, Chief of Metropolitan Corporation Quetta, and officials from other relevant departments.

The meeting decided that, by decisions taken under the leadership of the Chief Minister, all possible steps would be taken to improve and beautify the city. Liaquat Bazaar, Kandahari Bazaar, and Prince Road have been declared No-Parking Zones, and all types of vehicles and carts will be removed immediately. To ensure implementation, the district administration, Metropolitan Corporation, and traffic police will deploy staff and place traffic cones at these locations.

It was also decided that Jinnah Road, from Manan Chowk to Circular Road, will be designated for pedestrian use only from 6 PM to 10 PM. All carts on Joint Road will be removed immediately to improve traffic flow. Additionally, flower pots will be placed in front of shops in Liaquat Bazaar, Kandahari Bazaar, and Joint Road to enhance the aesthetic appeal, and shopkeepers will be responsible for maintaining them.

The city’s main business areas will be declared as “Downtown,” where rickshaw entry will be banned, and immediate steps will be taken to introduce electric vehicles. Apart from designated No-Parking Zones, parking fees will be charged on other city roads. A strict ban has been imposed on wall chalking; violators will face FIRs and arrests. Assistant Commissioners have been directed to remove existing wall chalking and take action against those responsible.

The traffic police have been instructed to declare Alamoo Chowk a No-Parking Zone and take action against violators. Shops built over the drain on Circular Road will be demolished immediately. All banners and posters from city roads will be removed without delay, and the anti-begging campaign will be intensified.

The concerned firm will take immediate action to improve shop signage on Abdul Sattar Road. Regarding the Mutton Market, excavation for a new plaza will begin soon, and construction must be completed on time.

The meeting also emphasized daily action to improve cleanliness and eliminate encroachments. It was also decided that the Metropolitan Corporation will provide additional traffic police staff to enforce No-Parking Zones. Employees who fail to cooperate with the traffic police will have their salaries withheld.

Addressing the meeting, Commissioner Quetta Division stated that tough decisions are needed to improve and beautify Quetta. Efforts will be made to improve the traffic system, eliminate encroachments, and enhance cleanliness. All departments must work together to resolve traffic congestion in the city’s main commercial areas.
